How it Works

On Tuesdays between September and April, matches are played across Rutland and Leicestershire at local bars and pubs. Matches start between 8pm and 8:15pm and last around 90 minutes including a half-time break. Fixtures are played every week except for a short break over the Christmas period.

Teams consist of six players per side, with the home team providing a seventh player to act as question-master and timekeeper. Most teams have squads of at least 8 players to account for absences.

Teams play ten rounds, with a break between rounds 5 and 6. One round in each half is an individual round, while the other rounds are team rounds.

In team rounds, players can confer with each other by talking or using pen and paper to get to the right answer but in individual rounds, the rest of the team must be silent.

Questions cover a wide range of topics, including history, geography, sport, pop culture, science, art, literature, film, television, and day-to-day life. Individual questions are generally slightly easier, but there is a mix of difficulty throughout each quiz. As always, it’s only easy if you know the answer!

Two points are awarded for correct answers, and incorrect answers can be thrown over to the opposing team for a bonus point. At the end of the quiz, whichever team has the most points is the winner, and scores points in the league table or progresses to the next round of the cup.

The questions are provided by a professional question setter who writes for quiz leagues and television programmes across the country. For this, teams are charged an entry fee that is determined by the treasurer. For the 2023-24 season this was £80 for the season, approximately £3 per game per team.
